Middle School Math Instructor Opportunity in Urban Education

Cinnaminson, New Jersey, United States Uncommon Schools Full time

Uncommon Schools is a leading nonprofit network of high-performing, public charter schools providing an outstanding K-12 education in historically under-resourced communities. We have proudly built schools that reflect our student population, with more than 60% of our teachers and staff across our network identifying as a person of color.

We currently manage 52 schools serving 19,000 students in five cities: Boston, Camden, New York City, Newark, and Rochester. Our graduates persist in and graduate from college at five times the rate of their peers nationally. We achieve this by offering strong academic, co-curricular, and social-emotional learning that prepares students for success in college and beyond.

Camden Prep currently manages four schools serving students in grade K through 10 (growing to grade 12). We believe in strong authentic relationships between teachers and students, supported by effective school systems and an engaging instructional model that enables students to flourish academically and personally. Camden Prep is consistently the highest performing of all district or Renaissance schools in Camden, NJ.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated Middle School Math Teacher who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of students. As a member of our team, you will work in grade level teams to help students grow towards being self-guided learners. At the heart of all math classes is a deep joy for mathematics, and our teachers work hard to refine their own mastery of the subject.

The successful candidate will teach foundational middle school math principles such as ratio/proportions, expressions/equations, the number system, and more. They will use our in-house CCSS-based Math curriculum and culturally responsive problem-solving activities to motivate students to grapple with problems and think critically about all the different possible paths to solving them.

This role requires a commitment to the mission of Uncommon Schools and investment in our vision for being an anti-racist organization. A demonstrated commitment to supporting students' social emotional and academic development is also essential. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team of educators who share your passion for urban education and are committed to driving student success. We offer competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits that support the personal health, wellness, and finances of our staff and their families.

Salary: The starting compensation for this role is approximately $66,500 per year, based on relevant professional experience, education, certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Because we value staff tenure in a role, we do not currently cap salary ranges for current staff members.

Benefits: In addition to competitive pay, we offer a range of benefits, including generous paid time off, extensive training and development opportunities, choice of comprehensive health insurance plans, pre-tax flexible spending and health saving accounts, financial planning & wellness resources, and more.
