Your Role in Making a Difference
The Advanced Practice Nurse operates under the direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator, Program Manager, or a higher-level medical professional. This role involves assisting the Physician in delivering comprehensive medical care and treatment to the inmate population, including those with behavioral health challenges. Responsibilities include coordinating patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver care in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
• Assess and treat patients presenting with acute care and emergency medical issues based on standardized protocols.
• Collaborate with a physician for cases outside of protocol parameters and identify patients needing transfer to an Emergency Department.
• Evaluate patients' medical, traumatic, and psychiatric conditions and document findings using the S.O.A.P method and electronic medical records.
• Engage in Quality Management and Peer Review activities, attend administrative meetings, and provide clinical support as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Completion of a master's program in nursing (for Nurse Practitioners) or an accredited educational program for Physician Assistants
Experience
- Prior experience in a correctional or detention facility
- A minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience
Licenses/Certifications
- Current unrestricted license, certification, or registration in the state of practice, with maintenance of all necessary certifications and educational requirements
- Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration
- Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS and PALS (where applicable) certification through AHA
