Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Assembly Technician III to join our team at Edmund Optics. As an Assembly Technician III, you will be responsible for assembling, aligning, testing, and calibrating electro- and/or opto-mechanical subassemblies and instruments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assembly Operations: Perform assembly operations on opto-mechanical parts, including packaging and integration of electro- and/or opto-mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot subassemblies, finished units, and/or production opto-mechanical assemblies and repair as necessary.
  • Training and Development: Train and assist others on Tech I & II skills, as required, and train others on equipment operation and manufacturing concepts.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform visual inspections for obvious damage or defects and assist in writing work instructions and procedures.
  • LEAN & 5S Initiatives: Lead LEAN & 5S initiatives and perform light housekeeping to keep work area clean and organized.
  • Collaboration: Assist Project Management/Engineering with prototypes, provide feedback of designs and ways to improve, and assist in creation/updating of Control Plans and Inspection Plans.
Requirements
  • Optics Handling Certification: Obtain Optics Handling Certification within a reasonable time of start date.
  • Complex Assembly Drawings: Read and understand complex assembly drawings, blue prints, production orders, and work instructions.
  • Quality Protocols: Understand quality protocols, including in-process and final inspection.
  • Mechanical Background: Possess a strong mechanical background.
  • Communication Skills: Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • MS Office Applications: Working knowledge of MS Office applications, especially Word and Excel.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; minimum of four (4) years related prior work experience.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds; occasional bending and lifting; ability to stand for long periods of time; work in a warehouse environment; may be required to use a ladder to organize or obtain supplies; may be required to use shop and power tools to modify parts or equipment.
