Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Assistant I to join our team at Benton Franklin Health District. As an Accounting Assistant I, you will play a critical role in providing financial support to our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Operations
    • Process and reconcile large batch payments for Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party insurances.
    • Post and reconcile all types of individual and 3rd party payer payments received in the mail daily.
    • Prepare daily bank deposits and ensure accurate data entry of charges.
    • Electronic billing of Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party insurance claims.
    • Print and work necessary reports, and follow up with payers as needed.
  • Vital Records Support
    • Issue certified copies of birth and death certificates according to RCW 70.58A and WAC.
    • Post charges and payments into the District's billing and registration system.
    • Stay current on all Washington State laws related to birth and death certificates.
    • Supply funeral homes with forms, handbooks, instructions, and assistance as needed.
    • Educate clients on how to register home births for Benton and Franklin Counties.
  • Customer Service
    • Provide excellent customer service to funeral homes, hospitals, businesses, and the general public.
    • Respond to public health emergency drills/exercises or actual events as required.
  • Administrative Support
    • Perform and document Medicaid Administrative Match activities per the Medicaid Administrative Match Training Manual for LHJs.
    • Prepare invoices upon request and prepare daily bank deposits.
Requirements
  • A minimal high school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred a two-year degree in accounting or business.
  • Previous medical billing experience preferred with a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience.
  • Accounting Assistant I - Previous experience in Vital Records or two years' experience as a Clerk-Typist II with BFHD preferred.
  • Accounting Assistant II - Two years' experience as an Accounting Assistant I.
  • Accounting Assistant III - Four years' experience as an Accounting Assistant II.
