Position: Child Abuse Assessment Specialist

Classification: Full Time, Non-exempt

Supervisor: Director of Assessment

The Child Abuse Assessment Specialist plays a vital role in the multidisciplinary team at ABC House, focusing on conducting thorough and legally sound interviews with children who are referred due to concerns regarding maltreatment. This position also involves providing training to community partners on effective interviewing techniques.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Forensic Interviewing
    • Conduct detailed and evidence-based interviews with children, ensuring the collection of comprehensive social histories from caregivers.
    • Engage regularly in case review meetings with multidisciplinary teams.
    • Respond to legal subpoenas and provide factual and expert testimony as necessary.
    • Foster collaborative relationships with law enforcement and child protective services.
  • Peer Review and Training
    • Stay updated on the latest research regarding forensic interviewing practices and child abuse, sharing insights with team members.
    • Deliver training sessions to partners on effective interviewing strategies and related topics.
    • Participate in ongoing peer review and professional development activities.
  • Interview Program Support
    • Assist in monitoring compliance with ABC House's interviewing standards and maintain accurate records.
    • Manage forensic interview recording equipment and address any technical issues.
  • Engage in regular self-care activities as agreed upon with the supervisor.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Possession of one of the following qualifications:
    • Master's degree in social work, psychology, child development, or a related field with two years of experience working with children;
    • Bachelor's degree with four years of experience working with children; or
    • Experience as a law enforcement officer or child welfare worker.
  • Proven ability to establish rapport with children and adults affected by trauma.
  • In-depth knowledge of child maltreatment, trauma-informed care, and strong research capabilities.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver's license, insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and child abuse registry check.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
  • Prior experience and training in forensic interviewing of children, preferably in a children's advocacy center.
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
  • Experience in conducting professional training or facilitation is advantageous.
