Job Description

Job Summary:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly qualified Academic Program Director to lead the development and implementation of academic programs in the Social Sciences Career Pathway. This is a key leadership position that requires a strong understanding of community college curricula, instructional practices, and learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement academic programs in the Social Sciences Career Pathway, including curriculum design, course development, and program evaluation.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to faculty and staff in the development and implementation of academic programs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including employers, community agencies, and educational institutions, to ensure that academic programs meet the needs of the community.
  • Develop and manage budgets for academic programs, including personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with regional and specialized accreditation requirements, as well as any applicable certification and licensure requirements.
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned staff, including faculty and instructional support staff.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve student learning outcomes and academic success.
  • Collaborate with other college departments to ensure that academic programs are aligned with the college's strategic plan and vision.

Requirements:

  • Masters degree required, preferably in a field related to one of the programs and disciplines in the assigned Career Pathway.
  • Formal collegiate teaching experience required, with community college experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience in an academic setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the comprehensive mission of community colleges.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in curriculum development and implementation.
  • Experience in program evaluation and assessment.
  • Experience in budget development and management.
  • Experience in supervising and evaluating staff.
