Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly qualified Pathway Dean to provide academic leadership and oversight for designated programs and disciplines in the Social Sciences Career Pathway.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Development
    • Direct the analysis of learning, career, and skills needs of constituencies served by the college and design curricula, courses, and syllabi to meet those needs.
    • Oversee the evaluation of programs and courses for currency, relevancy, and effectiveness.
  • Academic Standards and Assessment
    • Provide leadership and communicate standards, goals, and definitions of learning outcomes and teaching requirements for programs in the assigned Career Pathway.
    • Work with stakeholders to develop and implement effective methods and tools for measuring learning outcomes and students' educational goals.
    • Review and evaluate learning results through outcomes assessment and student evaluation of instruction.
  • Faculty and Staff Hiring, Supervision, and Development
    • Direct the recruitment, selection, hiring, and development of teaching faculty and staff in accordance with college procedures.
    • Evaluate the performance of individual full-time teaching faculty and recommend modifications to their professional development plans.
  • Student Academic Support
    • Ensure academic policies are applied appropriately and exceptions are granted and documented in a consistent manner.
    • Collaborate with Student Services personnel to ensure students are appropriately advised.
  • Operational Oversight
    • Develop and manage the academic delivery of instruction, including class schedule development and faculty assignments.
    • Oversee the procurement of materials and supplies needed for operations.
  • Budget Development and Oversight
    • Analyze resources needed to fulfill academic obligations and prepare fiscally sound budget proposals.
    • Monitor expenditures and assess fiscal trends to ensure budget integrity.
  • Community Relationships and Partnerships
    • Establish and build relationships with employers, community agencies, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to foster job placements and improve curricula.
    • Facilitate meetings and events to advance the college's vision, mission, and strategic goals.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree required, preferably in a field related to one of the programs and disciplines in the assigned Career Pathway.
  • Formal Collegiate Teaching Experience required, with community college experience preferred.
  • Supervisory Experience in an academic setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated Understanding of and commitment to the comprehensive mission of community colleges.
