Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor of Native American Studies to join our faculty at The California State University. This tenure-track position is available in the Department of History, College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

About the Position

The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in Native American histories and a commitment to providing high-quality education. They will be responsible for teaching courses in Native American Studies, including The California Experience, American Social History, and Native American History. The candidate will also have an active research agenda that focuses on Indigenous epistemologies and methodologies.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in Native American Studies, including undergraduate and graduate-level courses
  • Develop and maintain an active research agenda that focuses on Indigenous epistemologies and methodologies
  • Contribute to the life and development of the department, including serving on committees and participating in the broader university and disciplinary communities
  • Advise students and provide mentorship
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in History or a related field with an emphasis in Native American Studies or a related field
  • Strong foundation and training in Native American histories
  • Commitment to providing high-quality education
  • Potential for and/or demonstrated ability to teach students with diverse backgrounds
  • Potential for and/or evidence of scholarship related to Native American histories
Preferred Qualifications
  • Research agenda that focuses on Indigenous epistemologies and methodologies
  • Experience working collaboratively with local community organizations
  • Knowledge of indigenous languages relevant to their research, teaching, and community engagement
  • Community-based research, project-centered teaching, public/digital humanities, and/or a research and teaching trajectory that centers social justice
