Civil Engineer Scholar Program

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking highly motivated and talented civil engineering students to participate in the Civil Engineer Scholar Program. This program provides a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in transportation engineering and develop their skills in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Program Overview

  • Participate in a paid developmental work assignment during the summer
  • Receive a $3,500 stipend at the beginning of each Fall and Spring semester
  • Gain experience in roadway transportation, design technology, and geometric design applications
  • Develop mission-critical technical skills and Teammate competencies

Requirements

  • Be a rising junior or rising senior undergraduate student participating in an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) civil engineering, civil engineering technology or related engineering program
  • Have a basic knowledge of engineering principles
  • Be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment
