About the Role

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Safety Officer to join our team. As a Public Safety Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of our faculty, staff, students, and visitors on campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide personal, equipment, and real property security services
  • Escort services and other basic public assistance services as needed
  • Perform routine security and public safety patrol duties on campus
  • Remain alert to emergency situations and provide a first-line response, emergency management, and/or referral if required
  • Other duties as assigned to meet the Institute's business needs
Requirements
  • Associate degree in criminology or related field plus a minimum of five years' experience in security, public safety, law enforcement, emergency services, or military experience
  • In lieu of a higher education degree, a high school diploma and seven or more years' of experience in a public safety field will be accepted
  • Higher-level degrees in relatable fields may be considered in lieu of years of experience
  • Successful completion of pre-employment screenings that include a background check, motor vehicle report, and physical ability assessment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to conduct security patrols without direct supervision
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to complete routine paperwork
  • Understanding and ability to follow specific instructions and procedures
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Understanding, following, and enforcing safety codes, regulations, and procedures
  • Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation
  • Skill in performing building security and lock procedures
  • Knowledge of public security codes, policies, and regulations
  • Skill in providing protection services to individuals on campus
