About the Opportunity

The Department of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the role of Campus Service Worker Lead. This position is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to a team of campus service workers, ensuring the maintenance and upkeep of institutional buildings and grounds.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in custodial and grounds maintenance, with experience in supervising and training staff. They will be responsible for assigning and directing work assignments, monitoring adherence to departmental policies, and assisting in inventory management and record-keeping.

This is a full-time position that requires the ability to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends. The successful candidate will be required to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on customer service and attention to detail.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of six months of experience in custodial and grounds maintenance. They will also possess excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels.

Responsibilities
  • Cleans and maintains the interior and exterior of institutional buildings and grounds, including sweeping, mopping, stripping, and waxing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets and rugs, and performing other related cleaning activities.
  • Assists the management team in overseeing, guiding, and assisting campus service workers in completing their operational assignments.
  • Cleans and maintains the exterior appearance of assigned areas, including sweeping, raking, snow removal, and use of a hand-held leaf blower.
  • Collects and properly disposes of trash and litter throughout institutional buildings.
  • Operates various hand and power tools to perform daily tasks, such as dollies, hand trucks, power washers, etc.
  • Locks and unlocks buildings, offices, classrooms, and meeting rooms as directed by supervisor.
  • Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties, such as replacing light bulbs, unstopping drains, sinks, toilets, and repairs/assembles furniture as needed.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of six months of experience in custodial and grounds maintenance.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or greater.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
