Position Overview

The Facilities Management division within Facilities & Services is looking for candidates for the role of Campus Service Worker Lead.

Role Summary

In the capacity of Campus Service Worker Lead, you will be responsible for delivering a range of support services aimed at preserving the aesthetic quality of institutional buildings and the adjacent outdoor areas. This role requires adherence to established protocols, techniques, and safety standards, while also exercising some discretion in interpreting directives. You will oversee and allocate work tasks based on operational requirements.

The Facilities and Services Division comprises two essential units that contribute significantly to the University’s achievements. Our teams consist of skilled professionals dedicated to the upkeep, protection, and enhancement of the University’s facilities and grounds. Facilities and Services ensures that all aspects of the institution are managed effectively, fostering a safe and satisfying environment for employees, students, and visitors alike.

We prioritize a healthy work-life balance, allowing time for personal interests outside of work. WVU provides a comprehensive benefits package, including:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the cleanliness and interior aesthetics of all facilities, including classrooms, offices, laboratories, and public spaces through various cleaning methods such as sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.
  • Ensure the exterior appearance of buildings is well-kept by managing debris removal, snow and ice clearance, and graffiti cleaning.
  • Operate specialized equipment, including scrubbers and buffers, and utilize hand and power tools safely.
  • Prepare and apply cleaning solutions accurately, ensuring effective sanitation.
  • Assist in relocating furniture and equipment as needed for operational efficiency.
  • Support the setup and breakdown of equipment for events.
  • Perform additional tasks such as waste collection, supply replenishment, and responding to service requests.
  • Assist management in supervising and guiding campus service workers in their duties, including training new staff.
  • Stay updated on safety protocols and participate in ongoing training sessions.

This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including evening and weekend shifts, with potential for frequent changes.


Work Schedule: Sunday through Thursday, 7 PM to 3 AM

Pay Grade: 10. WVU offers competitive compensation, considering relevant experience and education.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience in commercial cleaning, including restroom and floor maintenance, as well as carpet cleaning. Familiarity with custodial equipment operation is essential.
  • Preferred: 6 months of experience in training others on custodial equipment and supervisory roles.
Physical Requirements
  • Strong hand/eye coordination
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, and bend for extended periods
  • Regularly move furniture and supplies
  • Work from ladders and in confined spaces as necessary
  • Lift items weighing up to 50 pounds
