Position Summary

Friendship Preschool is seeking a dedicated part-time assistant educator to collaborate with a lead teacher in nurturing children aged 3-5. Our team is deeply committed to early childhood education, focusing on the holistic development of children and their families, as well as our own professional advancement. We embrace principles such as loose parts theory, schema play, and nature-based learning, ensuring a child-centered approach. At Friendship, we dedicate Mondays exclusively for staff development, with classes scheduled from Tuesday to Friday mornings. We provide up to 15 hours of tailored professional development each academic year during work hours, and we align our schedule with the local school district calendar, allowing for breaks when public schools are closed, including summer vacations.


Role Responsibilities:
The Assistant Educator will report directly to the Lead Teacher, with guidance from the Director, and will assist in implementing the educational curriculum, environmental strategies, and overall care for a group of children. The Assistant Educator is expected to follow the Lead Teacher's direction and support all classroom operations. They may also take charge of the classroom in the Lead Teacher's absence.

  • Provide support for absent staff as needed and available.
  • Assist in planning, preparing, and participating in school events.

  • Comply with regulations set forth by ODJFS/DCY.
  • Participate in all required professional development and training sessions.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of child development principles.
  • Foster positive relationships among staff, children, and families.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:

  • Experience working with preschool-aged children in an educational setting is essential.
  • A minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or enrollment in a college education program is required.
  • A 2-4 year degree in early childhood education or a related field is preferred.
  • Must meet the standards established by Ohio regulations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Successfully pass and maintain a physical examination in accordance with ODJFS/DCY requirements.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and hold a toddler or preschooler of average weight.

Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with Reggio Emilia philosophy, project-based learning, or play-based methodologies
Training in trauma-informed care
Knowledge of Conscious Discipline or theories by Thomas Gordon and Dan Gartrell.


Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation:
Competitive hourly rate ranging from $14 to $16 based on educational qualifications.
