This position is part of a "continuous recruitment" process, meaning applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis, with interviews conducted periodically. Candidates may apply and interview only once within a six-month timeframe.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
This role is situated within the EMS Division of the Selma Fire Department. The selected individual will be assigned to an ambulance, delivering the highest standard of care, treatment, and transport for patients in a timely and secure manner, in accordance with established protocols.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide Advanced Life Support services to individuals experiencing medical emergencies in both pre-hospital and inter-facility environments.
- Maintain and operate emergency medical equipment, delivering prescribed treatments at emergency sites.
- Assess the nature and severity of illnesses or injuries to prioritize medical procedures.
- Perform cardiac monitoring and initiate intravenous access for medication or fluid administration.
- Manage advanced airway techniques and administer various forms of medication.
- Assist in the rescue of trapped individuals and provide initial care at emergency scenes.
- Transport patients to appropriate medical facilities while ensuring effective communication with medical personnel.
- Uphold a professional demeanor and appearance while representing the Selma Fire Department.
- Complete all necessary documentation accurately and assist in the upkeep of EMS equipment and facilities.
- Participate in public education initiatives and training programs as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Familiarity with local geography and relevant policies and procedures.
- Ability to operate an ambulance safely and in compliance with traffic regulations.
- Competence in record-keeping and report preparation.
- Capability to follow oral and written instructions and maintain effective working relationships.
- Proficiency in using all equipment typically found in an ambulance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Possession of a valid State of California Paramedic License and Fresno County Paramedic Certificate (required prior to employment).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Life Support certifications.
  • Valid California Ambulance Driver certificate and Medical Examiner's card.
  • Appropriate California driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
