About the Role

The Public Health Nutritionist I position at the Vermont Department of Health is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of Vermonters. As a key member of our team, you will provide nutritional counseling and breastfeeding support to individuals enrolled in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) supplemental nutrition program, using culturally competent motivational interviewing.

You will work closely with prenatal and postpartum women, as well as children under the age of five, to develop follow-up plans and participate in outreach and education efforts with community partners. Key Responsibilities
  • Provide nutritional counseling and breastfeeding support to WIC clients using motivational interviewing
  • Develop and implement public health interventions to promote healthy behaviors
  • Collaborate with community partners to provide outreach and education services
  • Work with prenatal and postpartum women and children under the age of five to develop follow-up plans
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a Bachelor's or higher degree in nutrition, nutritional sciences, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition. You will also need to demonstrate a strong understanding of public health principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred qualifications include registration as a dietitian or dietitian nutritionist (R.D./R.D.N.) and at least one year of experience providing nutrition education. Volunteer, internship, or undergraduate experience will also be considered.
