Pediatric Liaison Nurse Job Description

The Pediatric Liaison Nurse/Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator plays a vital role in the clinical management and administrative coordination of the nursing unit at UCLA Health.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Liaise with pediatric, hospital, and prehospital personnel to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
  • Maintain a strong communication loop between UCLA Health and outside pediatric groups to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest EDAP standards and lead the department to meet and maintain these standards.
  • Participate in EDAP survey application process and EDAP site survey visits to ensure compliance and quality improvement.
  • Develop and promote pediatric emergency education for the emergency department staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Develop and deliver pediatric-specific orientation for new staff to ensure they are equipped to provide high-quality care.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of pediatric quality improvement programs to drive excellence in patient care.
  • Maintain pediatric-specific certifications and EDAP required education as outlined in Los Angeles County standards.
  • Promote pediatric disaster preparedness for the ED and participate in hospital disaster-preparedness activities to ensure a safe and responsive environment.
  • Promote patient and family education in illness and injury prevention to empower them with knowledge and skills.
  • Work with clinical leadership to ensure the availability of pediatric equipment, medications, staffing, and other resources through the development and periodic review of ED standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in pediatric committees both in-house and in the community, including meetings of Pediatric Liaison Nurses of Los Angeles County.
Requirements:
  • Current, valid California RN Nursing Licensure
  • BLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, PALS, and ACLS
  • Graduation from a registered BSN or MSN program

Skills in Coaching and Assisting Staff:
  • Developing a plan of care including setting goals, monitoring, and documenting progress
  • Implementing interventions that are pertinent to goals established in the plan of care
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of interventions toward the attainment of established goals and recognizing the need to reassess or reset goal parameters
