Director of Payroll

Stamford Health is seeking a seasoned Director of Payroll to lead our payroll operations team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct all aspects of payroll processing operations and related reporting for Stamford Hospital and Stamford Health Medical Group.
  • Establish and oversee payroll processes for routine processing, tax reporting, and internal financial requirements.
  • Design strategies to achieve continuous improvement and efficiencies in payroll processing and operations.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Information Systems departments and outside vendors to design and implement necessary changes to Kronos timekeeping, ADP Payroll, and interfaces from Oracle HR system.
  • Respond to internal and external reporting requests, including external audit requests and information required for Stamford Health 990 income tax and excise tax returns.
Accountabilities:
  • Serve as senior-level Finance leader responsible for the outsourced payroll process for approximately 5,000 employees within Stamford Hospital and Medical Group.
  • Ensure payroll compliance with related IRS regulations and federal and state wage and hour laws.
  • Oversee the daily functions and performance management of the Payroll Department, ensuring excellent customer service and timely payroll processing.
  • Ensure continuous staff development and training on standard operating procedures and the three systems critical to the payroll process.
  • Maintain payroll systems, collaboratively working with IS and HR leadership and outside vendors as needed.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of five years of payroll management experience in a large, multi-state payroll setting.
  • Payroll experience with a major employer with at least 1,000 employees is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Accounting or Finance; Master's degree or Payroll Certification a plus.
  • ADP Enterprise and Kronos experience required (ADP Enterprise Version 6, Kronos Dimensions experience a plus).
  • Proficiency with MS Office (particularly Excel vlookup and Excel query functionality) required.
