Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, you will operate Cat Scan equipment, position patients for diagnostic imaging in a safe manner, and perform related responsibilities.

POPULATION SERVED:

Your core competencies will be evaluated primarily on the following patient populations: imaging with and without contrast for cardio-pulmonary, vascular, neuro, GI, GU, GYN, and skeletal/muscular conditions, including but not limited to PVD, CVA/TIA, COPD, CHF, HNP, and oncology.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operate C.T. equipment to produce radiographic images of specified body areas. Adjust equipment and patient positioning for each examination. Instruct and explain procedures to patients while selecting appropriate technical factors for individual cases.
  • Perform data reconstruction and special processing. Assess completed radiographs/scans for positioning, technique, and examination adequacy.
  • Monitor patients closely, provide first aid as needed, and consult with physicians when exam results appear inconsistent with patient conditions.
  • Conduct various clerical tasks including managing patient records, inputting/editing exams, and completing requisitions prior to film processing.
  • Maintain data records on magnetic media, ensuring correct identification of films and radiological factors.
  • Exhibit exemplary customer service principles and behaviors.
  • Utilize immobilization and supportive devices to ensure precise positioning and enhance patient comfort.
  • Stay informed about advancements in diagnostic Cat Scan techniques through technical literature, in-service education, and conferences.
  • Practice sterile techniques to prevent cross-contamination and maintain cleanliness in the work environment.
  • Adhere to established Radiation Safety standards and participate in Quality Improvement and safety initiatives.
  • Accurately record hours worked in compliance with hospital policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • ARRT (R) certification
  • Texas Medical Board certification as a Medical Radiologic Technologist
  • Current CPR certification
  • ARRT (CT) Credential (to be obtained within one year)

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Associate's degree in Radiologic Technology

PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough understanding of anatomy, positioning, radiographic techniques, and radiation safety principles.
  • Knowledge of radiographic physics and medical terminology.
  • Ability to determine exposure factors for optimal radiographic images while minimizing patient exposure.
  • Skill in evaluating radiographs for technique, positioning, and related qualities.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment with patients during imaging procedures.
  • Proficiency in positioning patients and adjusting equipment for desired imaging results.
  • Competence in the safe and efficient operation of Cat Scan equipment.
  • Willingness to innovate and improve techniques to keep the department current.
