The Housing Support Specialist will be integrated within a community resource hub, serving as a vital liaison for individuals involved in the justice system, case managers, and resource navigators seeking assistance with housing and related services. This role does not include supervisory responsibilities.
The ideal candidate is an organized, empathetic, and approachable individual who thrives in engaging with a diverse population of justice-involved individuals. The primary objective of the Housing Support Specialist is to mitigate housing obstacles for these individuals by collaborating with resource navigators and clients to evaluate immediate housing requirements and facilitate connections to suitable resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary housing contact at the community resource hub, managing communications with new, existing, and prospective clients, resource navigators, justice system representatives, and community housing service providers.
- Assist clients and case managers in identifying housing needs and opportunities, ensuring access to the most appropriate and available resources.
- Support the completion of intake processes and necessary housing evaluations, entering participants into the management information system and updating records as required.
- Collaborate with the Housing Navigation Team Lead and staff to cultivate relationships and resources related to sober living options, connecting interested clients to these programs when suitable.
- Engage in coordinated entry processes and monitor housing placements for referred clients.
- Participate in case conferencing to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to service delivery.
- Assist the data and analytics team in maintaining reports and statistics related to services provided and outcomes achieved.
- Occasionally represent the organization at community events.
Qualifications:
You will excel in this role if you possess:
- The ability to interact tactfully and professionally with the public, including justice-involved individuals, as well as staff and partner organizations.
- Strong communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with individuals from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with disabilities and non-native English speakers.
- A sensitivity to the needs of diverse and systemically disadvantaged populations, supporting the organization's commitment to equitable care systems.
- Excellent time management skills, with the capacity to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic environment while exercising sound judgment.
- Critical thinking abilities to navigate and advocate across various systems to achieve positive outcomes for clients and their case managers.
- Proficiency in computer software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A minimum of a high school diploma or GED; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience in housing, case management, criminal justice, or intake services is preferred.
- Experience in affordable or supportive housing is advantageous.
- Experience working with justice-involved individuals is preferred.
- A valid driver's license and auto insurance are required.
