OCTAVIA A ASKEW is seeking a dedicated Employment Support Specialist to join our team. This exciting role involves working closely with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, providing them with the support they need to succeed in their careers.

Job Summary:

The Direct Support Professional will be assigned to assist participants in learning new job duties, remaining focused on appropriate work behaviors, and maximizing productivity and stabilization on the job. The ideal candidate will ensure participants reach their potential and strive for positive outcomes during the employment process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a liaison between employers and participants to ensure successful integration into the workplace.
  • Assess ongoing support service needs that may hinder employment, such as barriers or challenges.
  • Oversee the completion of assigned tasks and ensure participants perform job assignments following established steps.
  • Assist participants in developing positive interactions with coworkers, customers, and other members of the public.
  • Maximize productivity through the use of positive behavior modification techniques and other interventions.
  • Act as the participant's advocate, ensuring their employment rights are respected and suggesting alternative work methods or reasonable accommodations when necessary.
  • Maintain open communication between participants, program staff, and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor participant production rates and perform periodic productivity measurements based on set guidelines.
  • Complete regular written progress reports, case notes, and other required case file records.
  • Ensure compliance with work rules and safety requirements, reporting concerns to appropriate employer personnel.
  • This position may require local travel up to 50% of the time to multiple workforce training sites.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of workforce training or relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of direct care staff roles.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; some college preferred.
  • Knowledgeable about responding to work-related needs of people with disabilities; ADA knowledge preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated patience and professionalism in working with all levels of participants and employers alike.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Able to work flexible shifts and overtime when needed.
  • Valid CA driver's license and state-required auto insurance necessary; driving records must be acceptable by company insurance carrier.
  • Able to read, speak, and write Basic English.
  • Able to speak another language and understand another culture as required by the program or local community, preferred.

Salary: $18/hour.
