We are seeking a Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist to join our team at Ascension Via Christi. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of clinical documentation, which is essential for providing high-quality patient care and making informed decisions about treatment.

Job Summary

The Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) audit plan. This plan will utilize evidence-based knowledge, protocols, and documentation criteria to ensure that medical records accurately reflect a patient's diagnosis, treatment, and outcome.

This individual will also oversee the CDI department, including performing concurrent and retrospective reviews of medical records, developing formal and informal training and education material, and facilitating this training with CDI staff, physicians, clinical, and ancillary staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a CDI audit plan utilizing evidence-based knowledge, protocols, and documentation criteria.
  • Oversee the CDI department, including performing concurrent and retrospective reviews of medical records.
  • Develop formal and informal training and education material related to findings from audits and staff feedback.
  • Facilitate training with CDI staff, physicians, clinical, and ancillary staff to improve the overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation.
  • Assist Health Information Management leadership in developing meaningful goals, metrics, and targets representing CDI's work performance and provider documentation performance.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A minimum of 10 years of acute care nursing experience.
  • Recent experience as a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist (CDIS) auditor and educator.
  • Proficiency in Google and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Licensure / Certification / Registration: Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Kansas Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
  • AHIMA ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer preferred.

  • An estimated salary range of $85,000 - $105,000 per year, based on experience.
