Clinical Psychiatric Specialist

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Clinical Psychiatric Specialist to join our team at the Mental Health Association of South Central Kansas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluates patients by interviewing patient, family, and other persons, conducting examinations, observing behaviors, and reviewing medical history and related documents.
- Develops treatment plans by determining the nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders, establishing treatment goals and methodologies.
- Treats patients using psychotherapeutic methods and medications, discussing progress toward goals with patients, providing instructions, and monitoring the effect of medications.
- Maintains interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress, consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
- Provides services to maintain required productivity and billing standards, meets deadlines, and ensures accuracy of various reports and paperwork.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation of service provision, completes progress notes in a manner that individualizes each note, and submits required progress notes and billing information in a timely manner.
- Directs, supervises, and consults with professional staff in the implementation of treatment plans and care of clients, provides psychiatric consultation, evaluation, and treatment as required, and assists in the development and implementation of follow-up treatment plans for clients in the community.
- Discharges clients and/or assists in the closing of cases on clients under their care in a timely manner, assists the Director in the development, evaluation, and implementation of clinical programs, and participates in the organization, meetings, and duties as required.
- Maintains responsibility for safe client care using appropriate planning, implementation, and evaluation procedures, and maintains the confidential nature of client and business information.
Requirements:
- Maintains acceptable overall attendance record, including department staff meetings, agency meetings, and trainings as required, and ensures appropriate notification to supervisor for absences and ensures that work is covered.
- Exhibits appropriate level of technical knowledge for the position, produces quantity of work necessary to meet job requirements, and works well with a team, keeping others informed of information needed.
- Treats others with respect, maintaining a spirit of cooperation, and maintains effective and professional verbal and written interactions with peers, customers, supervisors, and other staff.
- Demonstrates the ability and willingness to handle new assignments, changes in procedures, and business requirements, identifies what needs to be done, and takes appropriate action.
- Completes assigned work, meets deadlines without reminders or follow-up from supervisor or others, performs work conscientiously with a high degree of accuracy, and meets goals and objectives as mutually agreed upon during last performance review.
Position Requirements:
- Physician licensed in the State of Kansas, Board certification in psychiatry, and licensed with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
- Knowledge of multi-disciplinary mental health treatment methods, knowledge of psychiatric treatment in assigned areas, and ability to evaluate, develop, and implement plans in the care of clients.
- Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team, courts, and a variety of referral sources, ability to direct multi-disciplinary professional staff in the implementation of client care and treatment, and ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, and the public, ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and ability to work the required hours of the position.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing or sitting for extended periods of time, manual dexterity for administering injections, typing/data entry, writing, lifting/carrying up to 30 pounds, driving for the purpose of community mobility, bending/stooping.
