Job Overview

The incumbent acts as a key advisor to the Accounting Supervisor, overseeing the financial operations for the Navy Exchange Program, Military Sealift Command, and Navy Lodging and NGIS Programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operates under the guidance of the Accounting Supervisor, adhering to established objectives and regulatory frameworks.
  • Independently manages the maintenance and analysis of both General and Subsidiary Ledgers, ensuring accurate setup of accounts and effective control over asset depreciation.
  • Oversees year-end retail inventory processes, including adjustments for physical inventory discrepancies and recording investment earnings.
  • Contributes to the preparation of monthly consolidated financial statements for various NEXCOM business lines.
  • Ensures compliance with year-end accounting schedules and assists in the enhancement of accounting systems to align with current retail and hospitality practices.
  • Reviews and controls General and Subsidiary Ledgers, including the issuance of accrual journal vouchers and the reconciliation of detailed accounting reports.
  • Records financial transactions related to investments and prepares necessary reports for retirement reserves and severance pay.
  • Assists in the preparation of schedules and analyses required for annual audits, ensuring adherence to established accounting guidelines.
  • Initiates corrective actions as needed and provides guidance on accounting procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Evaluates accounting policies and procedures, recommending updates to align with best practices and regulatory standards.
  • Maintains communication with division personnel to clarify data and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Conducts advisory visits to field activities as necessary.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required, including:

  • General Experience: 3 years in bookkeeping, accounting, or auditing, complemented by 12 post-secondary semester hours in accounting or auditing courses.
  • Substitution of Education for Experience: A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field with at least 24 hours in accounting or auditing coursework.
  • Specialized Experience: 2 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management areas such as budgeting, accounting, auditing, or financial reporting.
