Custodian Job Description

Alfred University is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Custodian to join our facilities team. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our buildings and grounds.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Cleaning and Sanitation: Sweep, mop, wax, and polish floors, dust and polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and equipment, wash windows and walls, vacuum, spot clean, and shampoo carpets, empty and clean waste receptacles, and change light bulbs.
  • Environmental Services: Clean and maintain supplies in restrooms, move and arrange furniture and equipment, make beds for summer events, clean up body fluids using appropriate safety precautions and procedures, shovel snow at building entrances, and maintain custodial supplies and equipment.
  • Building Maintenance: Report needed building repairs, clean and disinfect pool area, add pool chemicals as necessary, and perform monthly building safety inspections.
  • Supervision and Safety: Supervise student help when required, maintain a safe working environment within and around facilities and associated equipment and supplies, and participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
Requirements:
  • Education: High School Diploma.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 months working as a professional custodian.
  • Skills: Knowledge of cleaning procedures, chemicals, and operation of power floor scrubbers.
