The Float Pool Registered Nurse will provide care across various departments, including Med/Surg, Orthopedics, Oncology, Telemetry, Neuro, and Trauma, with opportunities to train in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and Post-Partum.

The Float Pool is a distinctive unit composed of proficient nurses who support patient care throughout the facility.

Key Position Details:
.6 FTE (48 hours biweekly)
Permanent Nights, 8-hour shifts
Every other weekend.
MNA Tiers

Tier 1:
1+ year of med/surg/tele experience in an acute care environment

Tier 2:
6+ months of med/surg experience in an acute care environment

Tier 3:
Consideration for transitional care unit experience, long-term care experience, and new RN Graduates

Job Responsibilities:
Nursing encompasses the assessment and management of human responses to actual or potential health challenges. This includes establishing a purposeful therapeutic relationship between a registered nurse and patients and their families.

As a leader and integrator of care, the professional nurse holds the responsibility, authority, and accountability for planning, coordinating, and evaluating the patient's care requirements.

Provides nursing care across various patient care departments in accordance with the nurse's experience and competencies.
Principal Duties


Conduct comprehensive assessments of patient and family needs; identify outcomes based on the needs assessment; establish the care plan; supervise progress; and modify the care plan as necessary.

Maintain education and competencies to ensure proficiency in delivering high-quality patient care practices and skills.
Incorporate evidence-based nursing practices while considering current statutes, rules, and regulations when formulating the care plan.

Collaborate with the family and patient to establish realistic and measurable expected outcomes based on nursing diagnoses, the patient's current and potential capabilities, goals, available resources, and continuity of care planning.

Identify outcomes that are age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, realistic, and achievable.
Coordinate, collaborate, and delegate appropriately to ensure care is delivered safely and effectively.
Fulfill all organizational requirements.

Supplemental Roles:

  • Charge Nurse (when acting in this capacity).
  • Demonstrate the ability to coordinate, delegate, and direct unit operations, collaborating effectively with unit staff, leadership, and other disciplines.
  • Preceptor (when acting in this capacity).
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify the orientee's learning needs, plan suitable learning experiences, and validate the clinical competence of the orientee.

Required Qualifications:

Associate's or Vocational degree
Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree
Professional RN experience
Medical/Surgical experience
Licenses/Certifications:

Licensed Registered Nurse - MN Board of Nursing required if working in state of MN upon hire / WI Department of Safety & Professional Services required if working in the state of WI upon hire
Must meet at least ONE of the following requirements:

  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross
  • Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)
Certified Medical Surgical RN (CMSRN) preferred

Additional certifications may be required at certain sites:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment & Stabilization (PEARS)
Physical Demands

Medium Work:
Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently.
