Job Summary

The Medical Records Specialist is responsible for providing support at a specified client site for the Release of Information (ROI) requests for patient medical record requests.

Key Responsibilities
  • Record Review and Release: Determine records to be released by reviewing requestor information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and obtaining pertinent patient data from various sources, including electronic, off-site, or physical records that match patient request.
  • Customer Service: Answer phone calls concerning various ROI issues and respond to walk-in customers requesting medical records, logging information provided by customer into ROI On-Line database.
  • Request Processing: Respond and process requests from physician offices on a priority basis and fax information to the physician office.
  • Database Management: Log medical record requests into ROI On-Line database and scan medical records into ROI On-Line database.
  • Compliance and Cash Handling: Comply with site facility policies and regulations and handle and record cash payments for requests at specified sites.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Computer Proficiency: Demonstrates proficiency using computer applications and one or more years experience entering data into computer systems.
  • Independence and Production: Demonstrates the ability to work independently and meet production goals established by MRO.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills and demonstrated success responding to customer inquiries.
  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrates success working in an environment that requires attention to detail.
  • Dependability: Proven track record of dependability.
  • Education and Experience: High School Diploma/GED required and prior work experience in Release of Information in a physician's office or HIM Department is a plus.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus and knowledge of HIPAA regulations is preferred.
