Engineering Technician Assistant

Hennepin County is seeking an Engineering Technician or Assistant Engineering Technician to join our Transportation department. As a member of our team, you will work with the construction inspection crew, survey crew, and materials testing lab. This is a hybrid position, with a mix of on-site and remote work.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in construction inspection, material testing, and construction survey activities.
- Perform or check basic quantity, alignment, mathematical, or geometric calculations for construction projects.
- Read and interpret construction plans and technical specifications.
- Observe construction activities for compliance to the project plans and specifications.
- Perform quality control tests on construction materials.
- Perform material testing in a lab setting on a variety of construction materials.
- One of the following: completion of an approved highway/civil engineering technology or land surveying training program, one or more years of experience in technical non-professional highway, land survey, geographic information systems application, or related engineering work, one year of experience analyzing numerical data using computer software applications, or developing and maintaining computerized information system applications, thirty (30) college semester credits in mathematics, geography, computer science, or engineering related technical courses, or graduating in May 2024 with an Associates or higher in one of the above fields.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
- The ability to lift items weighing up to 60 pounds; climb up and down slopes; work outdoors, and around traffic in all weather conditions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Certification(s) from the MnDOT Technical Certification Program.
- Experience operating survey equipment such as total station, levels, and/or tripods.
- Experience operating inspection and materials testing equipment such as air tester, proctors, and Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP).
- Experience using computer software programs such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation.
