Job Title: Child Life Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our team at Services for the UnderServed. The successful candidate will provide direct services to children and families in a supportive crisis stabilization center setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct strength-based, person-centered, trauma-informed assessments of children's biological, educational, psychological, and social needs.
  • Engage in collateral visits with health professionals, school personnel, and make necessary referrals for mental health, daycare, and summer camps.
  • Coordinate activities designed to meet the individual needs of children, such as infant stimulation, toddler training, teen programs, after-school programming, and parent-child interactions.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service training, case conferences, and weekly clinical meetings.
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports.
  • Provide crisis intervention to children and parents.
  • Support families in their child care efforts, both in structured and unstructured settings.
  • Complete all progress notes, treatment planning, written assessments, and other required documentation.
  • Help children and families prepare for tests or procedures.
  • Help children develop coping skills and manage distractions.
  • Provide behavioral interventions, such as rewarding good behavior and preventing negative behavior.
  • Provide family support, support for brothers and sisters, and therapeutic play.
  • Support children and families in coping with grief and loss.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree and LMSW/LMFT required.
  • Experience working with people diagnosed with mental illness and those struggling with substance use and co-occurring disorders.
  • Experience working within a respite/residential or crisis 24-hour program.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer literacy skills (Excel, Teams, Windows, Outlook).
  • Experience working with children, youth, and/or families.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends.
  • Knowledge of substance use and mental illness as it relates to working with families, youth, and adults.
  • Effective interpersonal and written communication skills and ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to document professional clinical notes within appropriate timelines and input in EHR system.
