Position Overview:
The Heat Treat Engineer will provide essential engineering support to manufacturing operations, focusing on heat treatment processes and leveraging technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop heat treatment manufacturing processes, including process flow and equipment specifications.
- Utilize engineering skills to enhance processes and implement improvements.
- Lead root cause analysis for technical challenges.
- Conduct process evaluations aimed at improving quality, reducing costs, and minimizing cycle times.
- Offer technical support and guidance to the manufacturing team for daily operations and long-term projects.
- Manage updates to engineering documentation as necessary.
- Evaluate spare part issues and recommend changes as needed.
- Prepare new equipment to fulfill production and quality standards.
- Conduct capability studies and fulfill APQP and PFMEA requirements.
- Design new equipment layouts for approval.
- Prepare detailed specifications for equipment as required.
- Develop and test tooling, fixtures, and gauges for manufacturing processes.
- Oversee the procurement and installation of new capital equipment.
- Generate engineering reports for process development and troubleshooting.
- Manage projects related to process changes, including new product introductions.
- Travel occasionally as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a closely related field is required.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in Heat Treat Engineering within the manufacturing sector, particularly with EMAG/induction heating technologies.
- Experience in the automotive supply industry is advantageous.
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience with close tolerance measurements and strong mathematical skills.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, equipment layouts, and part drawings.
- Preferred experience in designing or modifying fixtures for high-volume production.
- Experience with capital procurement or plant start-up processes is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Excel and Word; familiarity with Solidworks and/or AutoCAD LT is preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of safety protocols, ergonomics, and IATF standards.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed during projects or shutdowns.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
This position involves various physical demands, including standing, bending, pushing, pulling, and reaching. Employees may need to lift up to 40 lbs and must possess specific vision capabilities. The role requires exposure to manufacturing environments, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment.
