The Safety Specialist I plays a crucial role in ensuring safety protocols are followed at a designated project site. This individual collaborates with the project team to strategically plan and implement safety measures during daily operations. Reporting directly to the Safety Manager, this position does not involve supervising other team members and is classified as a full-time, salaried-exempt role.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize expertise in construction site safety standards and practices
- Conduct inspections, rectify safety issues, and educate staff on safety protocols
- Proactively identify potential hazards and communicate findings to relevant company personnel
- Interpret and enforce federal and state health and safety regulations
- Keep Project Executives, Project Managers, Superintendents, and other stakeholders informed about OSHA regulations and compliance risks
- Ensure subcontractor compliance with the Site Safety Management Plan and all applicable regulations
- Maintain knowledge of Hazardous Communications, Confined Space, Air Monitoring, Job Safety Analysis, and Health and Safety Plans
- Deliver training to employees on health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations
- Communicate information clearly and professionally, ensuring appropriate detail and empathy
- Foster and maintain strong working relationships
- Keep OSHA 30 certification for Construction current
- Work independently while exercising sound judgment and discretion with sensitive information
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health or a related field is preferred
- 1-3 years of experience in construction safety
- Current certifications in First Aid/CPR, and OSHA 10, 30
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand for extended periods and safely maneuver around construction equipment and vehicles
- Prepared to encounter moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes, and varying weather conditions
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders, as well as bend, squat, kneel, crawl, and reach regularly
- Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Must adhere to safety protocols at all times to prevent injury
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods and function in a standard office environment

Travel is primarily local to job sites within the Northeast region.
