POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Procurement Specialist is tasked with overseeing all purchasing activities essential for maintaining the supply of materials, resources, and services required for the production of molded fiber components. This role involves coordinating procurement processes, managing supplier relationships, ensuring timely deliveries, addressing quality issues, and optimizing freight costs through the utilization of Material Requirement Planning (MRP) systems and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, all while adhering to corporate policies and regulatory standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage inventory levels to meet targets; analyze customer demand and production timelines to guarantee sufficient material availability.
- Possess a solid understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
- Evaluate current material expenses and negotiate cost reductions when feasible.
- Ensure cost-effective purchasing of Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) items.
- Track incoming freight expenses in accordance with established budgets.
- Maintain and report on supplier quality metrics, including on-time delivery and expedited freight.
- Oversee the return process for defective materials with suppliers, including invoice payment authorization.
- Request and assess supplier corrective actions.
- Conduct monthly raw material inventory assessments in line with corporate guidelines and compliance standards.
- Analyze sales data, market trends, and economic conditions to forecast consumer purchasing behaviors and determine necessary inventory levels.
- Collaborate with Sales to provide pricing and quotes as required.
- Participate in daily production meetings to address material shortages or supplier challenges.
- Develop and implement strategies aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, adding value, and fostering continuous improvement.
- Travel to supplier locations as necessary, up to 10% of the time.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in procurement or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing setting; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong analytical skills and familiarity with ERP and MRP systems.
- Effective communication skills to convey information and respond to inquiries from managers, colleagues, vendors, and clients.
- Experience in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies is advantageous.

- Work with suppliers ethically and maintain company confidentiality.
Judgment and Decision-Making
- The Senior Procurement Specialist must make informed decisions based on limited information and execute actions with minimal supervision from management.
- Capable of addressing purchasing department inquiries in the absence of the manager and seeking guidance when necessary, while understanding when approvals are required.
