At Oceans Behavioral Hospital DeRidder, we are dedicated to providing compassionate care to adults and seniors struggling with mental health issues. Our team of qualified professionals utilizes innovative therapies to promote long-term wellness through inpatient and outpatient psychiatric counseling and treatment options.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Support nursing staff in maintaining a therapeutic environment by performing routine tasks and patient care activities within the scope of the Mental Health Technician's training and experience.
  2. Adhere to professional standards, policies, and procedures, as well as federal, state, and local regulations, and Joint Commission standards.
  3. Effectively apply supportive behavior when assisting in the control of patients who exhibit unacceptable behavior, and employ de-escalation and therapeutic interventions as needed.
  4. Inventory patient belongings accurately, secure contraband as needed, and complete unit safety checks.
  5. Implement patient care activities under the direction and supervision of licensed nursing personnel, including vital signs, weights, ADL, intake and output documentation, nutritional monitoring, and communication of findings to the nurse.
  6. Assist patients with laundry, meals, bathroom functions, and maintenance of belongings, and assist at-risk and/or physically challenged patients with mobility needs as needed.
  7. Individualize patient care activities to meet the age-specific, disability, and cultural sensitivity needs of each patient.
  8. Communicate and document patient observations and data effectively in the patient record, and document patient departure from the unit, significant occurrences, observed behavior, vital signs, nutrition intake, and patient observation findings as requested by the registered nurse.
  9. Communicate outcome of assigned tasks to nursing staff in a timely manner, and communicate follow-up on patient care responsibilities, incomplete assignments, ongoing activities, and current patient needs to relevant staff to ensure continuity of care.
Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent with CNA certification or at least 6 months of prior bedside, direct patient care experience in a healthcare setting is required. Must be able to read, write, and follow verbal and written instruction, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must work well with diverse populations and utilize Age, Disability, and Cultural Specific knowledge in working with specialized populations to best communicate with those clients. Must be in good physical and mental health, as evidenced by a warm empathetic attitude, respect for dignity, worth, and potentiality of clients, and hold a high sense of personal integrity. Must be able to work under close supervision and successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral de-escalation program.
