Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, this role performs the duties of a primary or secondary surgical technologist in surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of aseptic technique and be able to prepare and maintain a sterile field.

Responsibilities:
  • Creates and maintains a sterile field, anticipating and providing instrumentation and supplies necessary to perform surgery.
  • Facilitates patient flow through case turnover.
  • Performs environmental activities to maintain asepsis of the operating room.
  • Anticipates needs in instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies according to technique procedure, and special requirements.
  • Maintains correct sponge, needle, and instrument count with registered nurse and reports discrepancies as policy requires.
  • Performs high-level disinfection.
  • Develops and demonstrates competency in specialty team cases and can serve as a preceptor.
  • Makes changes in surgeon's preference cards per surgeon requests to keep them current.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program accredited by Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP) or by the State.
  • Certified through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
  • CPR certification.
  • 0-2 years of related experience.
Working Relationships:

Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal/external customers. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at director level or above.
