We provide a range of programs designed to equip the community with essential tools and resources, helping over 11,000 individuals and families each year to achieve their educational, career, and financial aspirations. Our services encompass early childhood education, youth mentorship, employment services, housing stability, and cultural events, reaching diverse populations across Oakland and Concord.
Program Overview
The Children and Family Services programs include various initiatives such as Head Start, Early Head Start, and developmental playgroups, serving over 900 children and their families. Our services are tailored to meet the diverse needs of families, delivered in a culturally responsive manner across multiple locations.
Position Summary
The Family Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting families with enrollment processes, conducting interviews, and assessing their needs and strengths. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate service records and facilitating connections to community resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Family and Community Partnerships Coordinator in identifying comprehensive service needs and family strengths.
- Conduct Family Needs Assessments and follow-up as necessary.
- Assist with transition planning for families involved in Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
- Manage a caseload of up to 60 families.
- Perform enrollment and intake processes, ensuring compliance with eligibility requirements.
- Maintain documentation of family contacts and services provided.
- Facilitate referrals to appropriate community services.
- Conduct home visits as required.
- Participate in training sessions and community outreach efforts.
- Attend regular meetings and collaborate with team members to support family needs.
Qualifications
- AA/BA in a relevant field preferred, or equivalent experience in social services.
- Minimum one year of experience working with low-income families.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
- Compassionate approach to working with children and families.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform physical tasks such as climbing stairs, lifting up to 30 pounds, and engaging in activities that require mobility.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Completion of a physical exam.
- TB testing.
- Background clearance.
- Vaccinations as required.
- CPR certification.
