Position Purpose

The role involves the examination and evaluation of annual business personal property submissions to ensure precision and compliance. This includes the assessment of mobile home evaluations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts thorough reviews of annual business personal property submissions to verify the correct forms are utilized.
  • Evaluates each submission for accuracy in self-assessed values and depreciation levels across various property types, ensuring all totals are correct.
  • Provides explanations and answers inquiries from taxpayers regarding their annual business submissions.
  • Adjusts and reassigns parcel numbers based on changes in filing entity statuses.
  • Performs reviews and evaluations of mobile homes.
Additional Duties
  • Completes other tasks as directed by the Personal Property Supervisor.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED with at least five years of relevant experience.

  • Must possess and maintain a Level I Assessor/Appraiser Certificate in the State of Indiana (requires 30 hours of continuing education every two years). If not certified, must obtain certification within one year of employment.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel).
  • Comprehensive understanding of assessing principles, guidelines, and all related statutes and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of Department of Local Government Finance regulations regarding annual business personal property assessment filings.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to serve the public with professionalism and respect, even in challenging situations.
  • Capable of following both written and verbal instructions and responding positively to constructive feedback.
  • Must be able to conduct fieldwork for data collection related to assessments and re-evaluations.
  • Willingness to occasionally work extended hours, including weekends and evenings, and travel for meetings or training.
  • Adherence to all departmental policies and workplace regulations.
Work Environment

This position requires working in both indoor and outdoor settings, facing various conditions such as inclement weather and challenging terrains. Fieldwork is a significant aspect of the role, necessitating physical capability to conduct site reviews and gather necessary data.
