Position Overview

This role functions as a Senior Credit Officer responsible for evaluating credit applications for Commercial and Private Client borrowers within the South Region, specifically Southeast Florida. The individual will assess credit proposals for both current clients and potential new customers, conduct annual reviews, identify emerging credit risks, and manage the portfolio proactively through continuous oversight. Some travel to engage with clients and prospects is anticipated.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze credit submissions, assist in structuring, and make decisions on requests from existing clients and prospects. Provide insights and feedback to line teams regarding specific loan applications and overall portfolio management. Assess credit requests against established standards.
  • Ensure that evaluations accurately reflect credit risks, policy deviations, regulatory compliance, and appropriate loan classifications.
  • Guarantee that all asset quality targets are achieved and that processes adhere to the company's policies, practices, and regulatory standards. Communicate findings and any potential concerns to both line and credit leadership.
  • Oversee existing portfolio relationships within defined risk parameters and servicing obligations.
  • Recommend credit authority levels for line personnel and periodically review the utilization of credit authority.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and training to portfolio managers and credit analysts throughout the lending and approval processes. Assist line management in evaluating personnel and identifying training requirements.
  • Engage in internal loan reviews, audits, regulatory examinations, and forecasting asset quality indicators for senior management.
  • Contribute to the cultivation and maintenance of First Horizon's credit culture.
  • Assist in the formulation and review of credit policies.
  • Exhibit proficiency in understanding, interpreting, and applying credit policies while being aware of and acting appropriately concerning relevant laws and regulations.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of ten years in commercial banking or a related field with proven expertise in structuring commercial loans.
  • Experience in underwriting is essential; prior experience in credit risk management is preferred.
  • Possesses a solid understanding of the current business landscape, demonstrated knowledge of credit policies, and strong analytical skills.
  • Goal-oriented with a focus on production.
  • Exceptional relationship-building capabilities; collaborative approach to work.
  • Proficient in relevant computer applications.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and customer service abilities.
  • Willingness to travel, primarily within the specified markets.
  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • This position is based in Southeast Florida.
