Public Health Advisor

The City of New York is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Public Health Advisor to join the Bureau of Public Health Clinics (BPHC) - Sexually Transmitted Infections team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing direct clinic services to patients seeking sexual health care, monitoring disease trends, and providing education and training to providers and community groups.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health education, health promotion, or a related field, and will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The Public Health Advisor will be responsible for greeting patients, ordering and processing specimens, providing intake services, and registering patients into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
The BPHC - STI team is committed to improving the sexual health of all New Yorkers, and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to this mission. The Public Health Advisor will work closely with the team to develop and implement programs and services that promote sexual health and wellness.
Responsibilities:
- Greeting patients and providing intake services
- Ordering and processing specimens
- Registering patients into the EMR system
- Providing education and training to providers and community groups
- Monitoring disease trends and developing programs and services to promote sexual health and wellness
Requirements:
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by twelve semester credits in health education, or in health, social or biological sciences
- Or a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and six months of full-time satisfactory experience in a health promotion or disease intervention/prevention program
- Or a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described above
Additional Requirements:
- At least one year of experience as a Public Health Adviser, Assignment Level I, or at least one additional year of experience as described above
Working Conditions:
The Public Health Advisor will work in a fast-paced environment, providing direct services to patients and working closely with the BPHC - STI team to develop and implement programs and services. The successful candidate will be expected to work effectively in a team environment and to contribute to the mission of the BPHC - STI team.
