The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a Public Health Nurse Part-Time, Bureau of School Health to join our team. As a Public Health Nurse, you will be responsible for providing health education and services to students and staff in New York City schools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform as a member of a health team in New York City schools, both public and nonpublic.
- Prepare case findings, make referrals, and conduct follow-up in conjunction with audiovisual screening teams, doctors, and other healthcare providers in schools and communities.
- Assist in providing health education to students and staff in schools and advise families on proper health practices.
- Maintain school records and prepare monthly reports for nursing supervisors.
- Supervise Public Health Advisors.
- Establish contacts and collaborate with school administrators and community members.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing from a regionally-accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices.
- License and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
Special Notes:
- For appointment to School Health, individuals must be able to perform Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- For assignment to Assignment Levels II and III, in addition to meeting the Qualification Requirements described above, individuals must meet the supervisory level qualification requirements set forth in Section 11.42 of the New York State Sanitary Code.
