Job Summary

The Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts is seeking a highly skilled Energy Recovery Engineer to join their team. As a key member of the Energy Recovery Engineering Section, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing electrical and instrumentation engineering related to the design, operation, and maintenance of the Districts' solid waste facilities and power generation assets.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, control systems, and energy portfolio management. They will be responsible for managing the Districts' energy portfolio, serving as a contact with Southern California Edison, and participating in the purchase and sale of electricity, renewable natural gas, and related products.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for administering energy service and procurement contracts, developing electrical and instrumentation drawings and specifications, and designing low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems and PLC-based control systems.

Additionally, the Energy Recovery Engineer will be responsible for developing project cost estimates and economic analyses, reviewing design reports, and providing support for construction inspection and functional testing and commissioning for capital improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform electrical and instrumentation engineering related to the design, operation, and maintenance of the Districts' solid waste facilities and power generation assets
  • Manage the Districts' energy portfolio
  • Serve as a contact with Southern California Edison
  • Participate in the purchase and sale of electricity, renewable natural gas, and related products
  • Administer energy service and procurement contracts
  • Develop electrical and instrumentation drawings and specifications
  • Design low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems and PLC-based control systems
  • Develop project cost estimates and economic analyses
  • Review design reports
  • Provide support for construction inspection and functional testing and commissioning for capital improvement projects
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a pertinent engineering discipline from an accredited and recognized college or university
  • Master's degree in a pertinent engineering discipline from an accredited and recognized college or university (optional)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems Engineering (optional)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience designing, developing, and troubleshooting SCADA and industrial control systems for wastewater, power generation, petrochemical, or heavy industrial facilities projects
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View software and Logix-based PLC hardware families
  • Experience with OSIsoft Pi System Data Enterprise configuration and administration
