Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled District Engineer for Location and Design to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing management, leadership, and direction for assigned District engineering sections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and monitor project activities to ensure timely completion and within budget.
  • Provide fiscal management and technical guidance on a wide variety of transportation projects.
  • Train and develop team members to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Oversight contract performance, evaluate contract deliverables, review billing documentation, and monitor consultant compliance with contract terms.
  • Perform and coordinate the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submissions, special specifications, or special provisions.
  • Perform highly advanced and complex engineering design work, including development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Progressively responsible managerial experience demonstrating administrative, managerial, and leadership principles and practices.
  • Valid Professional Engineer's license.
  • Experience in roadway construction methods, standards, specifications, and materials.
  • Experience in leadership coaching, counseling, training, development, and effectively planning and scheduling work of diverse teams.
  • Experience applying roadway safety measures impacting roadway standards and special designs.
  • Experience applying civil engineering principles related to roadway design and standard design technical knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Knowledge of applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations specific to area of responsibility for Transportation Engineering Systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable plans, specifications, and cost estimates preparation, review, processing, and compliance requirements.
