Position Overview: As a Patient Monitoring Specialist, you will be responsible for overseeing the safety of assigned patients through video surveillance. Your role is crucial in notifying the appropriate healthcare personnel regarding any activities that may jeopardize patient safety. You will also be tasked with documenting patient activities and conducting thorough dysrhythmia analysis for both portable cardiac telemetry and hard-wired monitored patients.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Successful completion of all required training and education with satisfactory exam results within the initial employment period.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:

1. Completion of a Technical Education Program or Medical Assistant Program.

2. Certification in HeartSaver or Basic Life Support obtained within the first month of employment.

Core Responsibilities: The following duties outline the general nature of the work expected from individuals in this role. This list is not exhaustive and may include additional responsibilities.

1. Conduct cardiac monitoring for telemetry and hard-wired patients directed to the centralized Telemetry Surveillance Unit, managing visual oversight of 32 to 50 patients per station.

2. Complete required competencies and annual training within specified timeframes.

3. Monitor and identify changes in patient conditions, respond to alarms indicating abnormal heart rhythms, and report significant cardiac events to medical and nursing staff.

4. Analyze and document ECG strip waveforms every four hours, noting any changes according to established protocols.

5. Oversee centralized pulse oximetry for the general pediatric population and adult orthopedic patients as necessary.

6. Maintain a log of nursing staff assigned to each monitored patient and communicate any dysrhythmias promptly.

7. Utilize Epic/Telemetry Dashboard to ensure accurate patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.

8. Accurately manage patient information in the Telemetry Surveillance Center during admissions, discharges, and transfers.

9. Use standardized reporting sheets during shifts to ensure detailed information is communicated effectively.

10. Prepare telemetry packs, ensuring batteries are charged and installed correctly for nursing staff.

11. Assist with indirect patient care by managing inventory and maintaining equipment cleanliness.

12. Participate in regular inventory counts to track equipment.

13. Monitor equipment functionality and assist with troubleshooting as necessary.

14. Prioritize patient safety by identifying and addressing critical tasks.

15. Answer calls with professionalism, clearly identifying yourself and your department.

16. Relay accurate messages to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.

17. Conduct video monitoring for patients meeting specific criteria and manage the installation of wireless cameras.

18. Document patient interventions in the electronic medical record every four hours.

19. Communicate any signs of patient risk to assigned staff through the alarm system.

20. Manage patient entries and exits from the video monitoring system during admissions, discharges, and transfers.
