Job Title: Nordic Program Director and Head Coach

Sugar Bowl Academy (SBA) is a fully accredited private independent school and gold-certified U.S. Ski & Snowboard club. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nordic Program Director and Head Coach to lead our Nordic programs and develop student-athletes through a comprehensive long-term athlete development model.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of comprehensive, age-appropriate programming for all SBA Nordic athletes.
  • Manage all aspects of SBA Nordic training, competition, and periodization, including coordinating and overseeing all athlete management plans.
  • Design, implement, and oversee Nordic coach training, professional development, and mentoring.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications plan to significantly increase SBA Nordic participation.
  • Integrate all necessary domains of athlete development (physical, technical, tactical, mental, social, and equipment management).
  • Plan for and implement successful early and late-season operations with Sugar Bowl Resort.
  • Recruit, interview, foster, manage, and retain mission-appropriate student-athletes.
  • Explore, develop, and implement year-round training opportunities and operations.
  • Oversee and coordinate consistent and regular athlete evaluation processes.
  • Oversee and coordinate consistent and regular communication and education with athlete parents.
  • Maintain a strong presence on-trail as an active Nordic coach, and supporting coaches and athletes.

Requirements:

  • Two years of directly related experience with increasing responsibility, Bachelor's degree, Level 100 U.S. Ski and Snowboard Nordic coach.
  • Ability to oversee the business and programming plan of the Nordic programs and how it fits into the overall strategic plan of SBA.
  • Skilled at troubleshooting, paying close attention to details and actively managing timelines and deadlines.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to ensure consistency of programming and processes through proper written documentation.
  • Strong knowledge and experience, including the current and ongoing pursuit of professional development and credentials related to Nordic skiing and competitive race programming and training.
  • Strong team player with proven leadership skills, including effectively delegating, managing staff and volunteers, and working with the entire SBA staff, community partners, and Sugar Bowl Resort staff.
  • Possesses excellent relationship and communication skills to work closely with coaches, parents, student-athletes, admissions candidates, and community partners.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and proficiency in utilizing SBA's established platforms (i.e., Google Drive).
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently and perform manual labor and coaching duties on steep, uneven, mountain-like terrain and often in inclement weather.
