Principal Applied Scientist, Sponsored TV

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Applied Scientist to join our Sponsored TV Ads team at Amazon. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for driving the technical roadmap and delivering innovative machine learning solutions to solve real-world problems and achieve business goals.
Key Responsibilities- Thought Leadership: Anticipate obstacles to success, help avoid common failure modes, and hold the team to a high standard of technical rigor and excellence in machine learning.
- Strategic Solutions: Own and drive the most complex and strategic solutions across the business, responsible for millions in revenue.
- Viewer Experience: Define evaluation methods and metrics that measure viewer experience and invent scientifically sound and scalable solutions to improve viewer experience.
- Business Growth: Seek to understand the Sponsored TV offering and identify opportunities to grow our business via principled machine learning solutions.
- Research and Development: Research, build, and deploy innovative machine learning solutions, working across all technical disciplines.
- Technical Direction: Identify untapped, high-risk technical and scientific directions and stimulate new research directions.
- Communication: Communicate our machine learning innovations to the broader internal and external scientific communities.
- Team Leadership: Hire, mentor, and guide senior scientists and partner with engineering leaders to build efficient and scalable solutions.
Sponsored TV Ads is a strategic new Amazon Ads product that is pioneering new experiences to help brands connect with millions of viewers. We are innovating on performance ads on TV and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team that values work-life balance.
Requirements- Education: Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or related disciplines.
- Experience: 10+ years of applied machine learning experience in delivering machine learning-based solutions to solve real-world problems and achieve business goals at a very large scale.
- Leadership Experience: 2+ years of hands-on experience leading multiple machine learning teams to design products that satisfy a customer need.
- Published Research: Published research work in academic conferences or industry circles.
- Deep Learning Experience: Experience shipping large-scale deep learning models for online recommendation, personalization, or search.
- Engineering Partnerships: Experience partnering with engineering teams to ensure deep learning solutions meet latency requirements.
- Product Strategy: Experience influencing product strategy through cutting-edge research in deep learning.
- Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written skills in communicating with both non-technical and technical audiences.
- Business Acumen: Excellent business judgment and the ability to balance business, product, and technology priorities.
- Machine Learning Expertise: Expert in machine learning, statistics, and experiment design.
- Team Building: Experience hiring and building teams of applied scientists.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Experience collaborating and influencing cross-functionally across science, engineering, economics, and business teams.
