Part-Time Microbiology Instructor Position

Job Summary

The San Mateo County Community College District is seeking a part-time faculty member in Microbiology to teach all courses offered in the microbiology curriculum. The ideal candidate will possess a Master's or above in any biological science or a Bachelor's in any biological science and a Master's or above in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science, or the equivalent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach microbiology courses and assist in curriculum revisions and new course development
  • Consult with students during regularly scheduled office and lab hours
  • Maintain expertise in current technologies
  • Serve as a member of division and college committees
  • Perform other professional duties as required by contract and general institutional needs

Requirements

  • Possession of a Master's or above in any biological science or a Bachelor's in any biological science and a Master's or above in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science, or the equivalent
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff

Conditions of Employment

  • Submit official transcripts
  • Submit verifications of prior employment
  • Provide satisfactory references
  • Successfully clear a background check
  • Presentation of original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Approval of employment by the SMCCCD Board of Trustees
  • Provide a certificate of Tuberculosis exam for initial employment
  • Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer
