Substance Abuse Counselor Job Description

At Unhooked Recovery, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. As a key member of our clinical staff, you will play a vital role in providing mental health and substance abuse assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and facilitating individual, crisis, and family counseling.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide mental health and substance abuse assessments, and develop individualized treatment plans
  • Facilitate individual, crisis, and family counseling sessions
  • Assist in motivating and addressing ambivalence with individuals dealing with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders
  • Provide clinical oversight of the Behavioral Health Technician
  • Participate in team treatment, team planning, and goal setting
Requirements:
  • Valid AZ Board of Behavioral Health License to Practice
  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Substance Abuse Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy from an accredited college or university
  • Working knowledge of the DSM-V, community resources, clinical methods, and procedures
  • A license in good standing as a LASAC, LISAC (preferred) or LAC, LPC, LMSW, LCSW, LAMFT, or LMFT (with substance abuse experience) in the state of Arizona
  • Working knowledge of the 12-Steps and AA Program
  • Working knowledge of the six dimensions of the ASAM Criteria
  • Residential experience, knowledge of psychotropic medication, and illness common to the population
  • If in recovery, must have at least one-year of sobriety
  • Adhere to the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselor (NAADAC) Code of Ethics
  • Able to secure and maintain a fingerprint clearance card through the Department of Public Safety
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification while employed

Salary: Starting at $52,000
