The Role
Black Lotus Labs is seeking a Senior Lead Security Engineer to utilize Lumen's exceptional visibility in hunting Advanced Persistent Threat actors (APTs) and enhancing the detection of evolving malicious threats. Our expansive global visibility, supported by one of the largest interconnected IP backbones and a robust computing cluster, offers unique opportunities to integrate machine learning and graph analytic techniques for threat hunting across the internet.

This position involves collaboration with advanced security researchers, data engineers, malware reverse engineers, and data scientists to address evolving threats driven by technologies such as our Hadoop ecosystem, Elasticsearch, and Docker environments. This role is remote with occasional in-person collaboration.

Main Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the team to enhance the analysis of evolving threats and track threat actors using data science tools developed by our lab.
  • Work alongside APT analysts to conduct trend analysis on tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) to identify patterns in our data.
  • Research and analyze threat actor activities online using Black Lotus Labs data to create analytical models for detecting malicious events.
  • Develop data analytics to improve cluster efficiencies and enhance our capabilities in tracking malicious cyber actors.
  • Implement automated workflows to identify and analyze trends within our data holdings.

Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates will possess a strong background demonstrating:
  • Proficiency in analyzing large data sets and articulating findings.
  • Experience with Python scripting and familiarity with distributed computing.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to quickly adapt to new methods and tools.
  • Knowledge of data extraction through SQL.
  • User-level experience in a Unix-based environment.
  • Excellent writing skills for knowledge sharing.
  • Familiarity with tools such as PySpark, Pandas, SQL, data visualization, and graph analytics.

Preferred Qualifications
Well-experienced candidates may also have:
  • Experience with OSINT methods for investigations.
  • Background in developing automation and analysis in Python environments.

The starting salary for this role varies based on the employee's primary work location, with specific ranges for different states. Compensation is influenced by individual qualifications.
