Position Overview
The AVP of IT Infrastructure and Network is a pivotal leadership role tasked with the strategic oversight of Xcel's IT and operational technology infrastructure and network systems. This position is crucial in ensuring that our technological framework supports business operations and facilitates growth, aligning IT initiatives with the distinct objectives of the utility sector to foster efficiency and innovation. The organizational structure includes a blend of full-time employees, contractors, and managed service providers, totaling approximately 950 personnel, with a financial stewardship responsibility exceeding $1.0 billion over four years.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and implement a detailed, long-term strategic roadmap for IT infrastructure and network systems that aligns with Xcel's goals and industry advancements.
- Direct the design and deployment of scalable, secure infrastructure, network, and cloud solutions.
- Ensure that the IT infrastructure is capable of meeting both current and future operational demands for infrastructure, network, and cloud capabilities.
- Supervise the maintenance, configuration, and reliable functioning of network servers and systems.
- Establish and uphold rigorous security protocols to safeguard the organization's data and IT resources, ensuring adherence to industry regulations and standards.
- Guarantee the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of IT infrastructure and network services.
- Implement proactive monitoring strategies to ensure optimal performance of existing systems.
- Build, lead, and nurture a high-performing team of IT infrastructure and security professionals, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Effectively manage and inspire a cross-functional team in the execution of capital projects and operational initiatives.
- Optimize resource allocation across programs, projects, and operations to enhance performance.
- Develop and oversee the budget for Infrastructure and Network, ensuring high service delivery standards.
- Monitor and manage expenditures to align with the financial objectives of the organization.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through efficient resource management, vendor negotiations, and the adoption of new technologies.
- Communicate IT strategies, progress, and risks to executive leadership and relevant stakeholders.
- Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective services.
- Stay informed about industry standards and compliance requirements in a highly regulated environment.
- Validate disaster recovery and business continuity strategies to ensure rapid recovery from disruptions.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and implement strategies to mitigate potential IT threats and vulnerabilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in IT infrastructure and network management.
- At least 10 years of leadership experience, with a minimum of 7 years in a senior or executive role.
- A proven track record in the utilities sector or a similar field is highly desirable.
- Extensive knowledge of IT infrastructure and network technologies, including servers, storage, networking, cloud services, and IT service management frameworks and tools.
