Job Title: Civil Engineer (Geothermal) 7

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Civil Engineer (Geothermal) 7 to join our team at CDM Smith. As a key member of our geotechnical engineering team, you will be responsible for leading and executing geothermal projects in the US and globally.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership for geothermal projects, including design, planning, and execution.
  • Collaborate with our sales team to identify and showcase our technical differentiators to drive growth.
  • Lead teams to create engineering designs, including geothermal systems master planning & studies, conceptual and basis of design technical documents, and detailed design of geothermal heating and cooling systems.
  • Design systems of moderate to high complexity to meet client requirements.
  • Review draft designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and sign off on completed designs.
  • Ensure that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
  • Perform site assessments, modeling, and studies to ensure designs are aligned with industry standards and local requirements.
  • Attend and present at conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.
  • Recruit, retain, and mentor the best and brightest technical employees.
  • Anticipate, identify, and adopt new technologies to help clients solve challenges.
  • Collaborate with other discipline leaders in the practice to cultivate innovative solutions, technologies, and research and development projects.
  • Embrace continuous improvement, drive a culture of quality, and meet commitments for sustained success.
  • Work with clients in the public, private, federal, and international markets.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining, or Geologic Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • At least 12 years of related experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical Engineering emphasis or Engineering Geology/Mining Engineering preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) in state of residence preferred.
  • Working knowledge of FLAC 2D/3D or Plaxis 2D/3D is a plus.
  • Experience in trenchless design, tunnels, or geo-environmental projects is a plus.
  • AEE Certified GeoExchange Designer preferred.
  • IGSHPA Certified Geothermal Inspector preferred.
