Job Description

Job Summary: The City of New York is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Operations Associate to join the Bureau of Childcare. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with legislative mandates and conducting comprehensive background checks for child care staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and review child care permit applications for completeness and accuracy
  • Conduct background clearances using designated databases and protocols
  • Track application status, deficiencies, and follow-up items
  • Coordinate documentation review and correction of violations with inspection and enforcement staff
  • Enter information and upload documents into Child Care databases, ensuring data security and confidentiality
  • Provide technical assistance to current and prospective child care operators on permit application and comprehensive background check processes

Requirements:

  • Four-year high school diploma or its equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization
  • One year of satisfactory clerical experience
  • Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 20 words per minute

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong communication, analytic, and observational skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Experience with data entry and querying large datasets
  • Highly organized, excellent attention to detail, and solution-oriented

Additional Information:

  • New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment
  • City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County
