Job Summary

As a Technical Publications Systems Supervisor at General Dynamics, you will oversee the administration of publications revisions, contents, and business processes. Your primary responsibility will be to develop solutions to support the production and distribution of technical information. You will work closely with Technical Publication management to analyze current and future technology needs and develop strategies for implementing technology projects and requests to support business objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement solutions to produce and distribute technical publications using department business processes and technology.
  • Provide input to management on new technology and products for integration into the Technical Information business model.
  • Make recommendations to management on opportunities to gain competitive advantage, improve efficiency, and reduce cycle time or costs.
  • Develop business relationships with key decision-makers to develop a technology strategy to ensure alignment of technology initiatives with business objectives, needs, goals, and operating priorities.
  • Determine feasibility of systems solutions and ensure business area management understands technology capabilities.
  • Liaison between Technical Information management, end users, and vendors for technology issues to exchange information and resolve problems.
  • Initiate problem resolution and improvements to existing systems; assist with planning activities and provide project leadership for mid to large-scale projects that integrate business processes into chosen technology.
  • Document and present business requirements in a manner that is easily understood, estimated, and executed by the chosen service provider.
  • Review ROM time, manpower, and cost estimates for systems development activities.
  • Work with project leaders to build development plans to include all necessary resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Responsible for and reviews the activities of personnel in the design, development, purchase, integration, implementation, maintenance, and operation of Technical Information related technology projects.
  • Assist with evaluation and recommendations regarding purchased software packages, hardware platforms, and supporting services.
Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Computer Science, or related curriculum required or equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

10 years related data processing experience or other business or technical experience to include 8 years technical experience with primary Technical Publication systems related software applications (XyEnterprise XML Professional Publisher, XyEnterprise Content@, ArborText Editor) including style structure and Document Type Definition (DTD)/Schema development and 6 years experience with end user computing tools, office automation tools, or publishing tools.
